FLSA
FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT

The Fair Labor Standards Act is a federal labor law of general and nationwide application, including Overtime, Minimum Wages, Child Labor Protections, and the Equal Pay Act.

THE INFORMATION CONTAINED WITHIN THIS SECTION WAS FOUND AT WWW.FLSA.COM

FLSA Overtime. The FLSA requires overtime compensation (at time and one-half) for all "hours worked" over a prescribed "threshold" (typically 40 hours per week), for "nonexempt" employees. FLSA overtime cases seek recovery for unpaid or underpaid back wages, plus double damages (called "liquidated damages") and attorneys' fees.

The majority of workers enjoy the protection provided by FLSA as non-exempt employees. However, most paid emergency service personnel are considered to be exempt. Therefore FLSA does not apply to us as it does to the vast majority of workers. I hope to provide enough information within this site to address your questions regarding FLSA and how it applies to us to answer your questions. If you can not find what you need here I recommend you use one of the links provided within this section. As mentioned already this information was found at www.flsa.com. If you find other pertinent information or links please contact me at webmaster@unionfirefighters.net.

There are many aspects of the work force affected by FLSA. The ones of particular note for us are:

Firefighters | Paramedics
