The Firefighter/E.M.T.s and Firefighter/Paramedics of Local 818 welcome you to our website. Here you will find information on our organization and other interesting information.

Local 818 is comprised of 32 full time Firefighter / E.M.T.s and Firefighter / Paramedics. The Emporia Fire Department operates from two stations. Our normal staffing consists of three shifts with nine Firefighters at Station 1 and six Firefighters at Station 2.

Emporia Fire Department operates the Lyon County Ambulance Service for the entire county. We currently have four ambulances and a rescue truck. Along with EMS calls, Lyon County Ambulance Service handles all patient transfers in and out of Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

The county seat and largest city in Lyon County, Emporia covers 8.97 square miles. The population of Emporia is 26,760 and the population of Lyon County is 35,935, according to the 2000 census.

Emporia is also home to Emporia State University. ESU has a student population of approximately 6,000 students.

Many of Local 818's members are also members of EFD's Haz-Mat & Water Rescue Teams.
